Fryad Muhammad Faqi Hussain has been Iraq’s Minister of Culture since 2014. He worked as rapporteur on the Security and Defence Committee in the Iraqi Parliament for two terms. He is a former member of the Constitution Amendments Committee during the Parliament’s first term and a member of the high committee of national reconciliation after the formation of the National Unity Government. He has participated in more than 30 activities abroad in conventions and political, social and media conferences in many countries and speaks Kurdish, Arabic, English and Persian and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and a Diploma in Journalism. As a political columnist he has written hundreds of political articles and worked in journalism for more than 30 years. He is a founder of New Kurdistan and was its editor-in-chief for a while. He is now editor-in-chief of the Al-Ittihad daily which is published in Baghdad. As well as a member of the International Journalist Union, he is a secretary of the Kurdistan journalist branch in Baghdad. He has written three books on Iraq and another three are awaiting publication.
