Heather Humphreys TD was appointed Minister for Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural
and Gaeltacht in May. As part of her broad portfolio, Ms Humphreys has been leading the Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme, the Government’s extensive national and international programme to commemorate the centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising which ultimately led to Ireland’s independence. She recently published Culture 2025,
a framework policy for arts and culture for the next decade, the first policy document of its kind in Ireland. Funding for arts, culture and film has increased year on year since Ms Humphreys’ appointment as Minister for the Arts in 2014. She was first elected to the Dáil Éireann (the Irish parliament) in 2011 but has been involved with politics since 2003 when she was co-opted on to Monaghan County Council. In 2009, she was elected Mayor of Monaghan County Council. Prior to going into politics, she had a successful career in finance and community banking.
