Jonty Claypole is Director of Arts BBC. He joined BBC Arts in 2003 after a string of attempted careers, such as a musician, screenwriter, comedian, cameraman and chauffeur. He was a director and series producer on landmark series like Around the World in 80 Treasures and Seven Ages of Britain with David Dimbleby. As Executive Producer, he has created new strands such as What Do Artists Do All Day, Secret Knowledge and In Their Own Words, landmark series including A History of Art in Three Colours and A Very British Renaissance, and single films like Julien Temple’s London: The Modern Babylon. In 2012, he became Head of Arts for BBC Productions, joining up television production in Glasgow, London and Bristol, before moving to his current post in 2014.
