Dr. Karen Ingham is an artist, a Professor of Art, Science and Technology Interactions, an Honorary Interdisciplinary Research Fellow at Swansea College of Art UWTSD and an Honorary Fellow at Swansea University Medical School.

Karen has exhibited and published internationally and much of her collaborative practice is in relation to the biomedical sciences. She is interested in how we define, interpret, and respond to not only the material body and brain, but also subjective concepts such as mind, embodiment, and wellbeing. She is a digital innovator, working with a range of medical and creative digital technologies such as 3D printing, biological imaging, and virtual reality. Recent projects have explored possibilities for a more embodied language of mental health, a visual language that is ‘bespoke’ and phenomenological in nature. This is demonstrated in the AHRC Creative Exchange collaboration States of Mind (2015), part of the Wellcome Trusted funded ‘Group Therapy’ exhibition at FACT in Liverpool, and Virtual Embodiments (2017) an Arts Council Wales funded pilot with youth mental health expert Prof Ann John at Swansea Medical School. For more information on her work, please visit http://kareningham.org.uk.
