Kōichi Hagiuda

Kōichi Hagiuda was born in Tokyo. He has been elected five times to represent the Tokyo 24th Electoral District in the House of Representatives.

He graduated from the School of Commerce of Meiji University in 1987 before being elected to the City Council of Hachioji in 1991. He was elected to the Metropolitan Assembly of Tokyo in 2001, before becoming a member of the House of Representatives in November 2003.

Minister Hagiuda was appointed as Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Education, Culture, Sport, Science and Technology in August 2008. He has subsequently held office in a number of key political and administrative positions, including as Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary and Secretary General of Cabinet Bureau of Personnel .

He was appointed as Minister of Education, Culture, Sport, Science and Technology and as Minister in charge of Education Rebuilding in September 2019.
