The Aga Khan Trust for Culture

The Aga Khan Trust for Culture, Geneva, Switzerland

The notion of culture as an asset rather than a luxury is still contested in many parts of the world. As a result, a significant part of the world’s cultural heritage – much of it in the Muslim world – is at risk.  For over 30 years, the Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC) has shown that culture can be an asset – that it can be a catalyst for improvements in the quality of life – even in the poorest and most remote areas of the globe. AKTC works to preserve and revitalise cultural assets; reinvigorate cultural traditions; create education programmes that foster mutual understanding; and identify architectural excellence that positively impacts the way people live, work and interact. The Trust’s programmes include the Aga Khan Award for Architecture, the Aga Khan Historic Cities Programme, the Aga Khan Music Innitiative, the Aga Khan Museum, the Education Programme, the on-line resource Archnet.org, and related programmes.
