Cultured Mongrel is the creative handle for the artistic practice of Emma Jayne Park; dancer, theatre maker, collaborator, and micro-activist. From her base in Scotland Emma works locally, nationally, internationally and as Associate Artist with The Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival; one of the world’s largest social justice arts festivals. ‘High octane… energetic, witty and playful’ (The Skinny) she uses physicality as a catalyst for connection, tackling challenging themes and connecting with audiences through an honest practice that creates space for conversation about the complex matters that impact our everyday lives. Her current touring work It’s Not Over Yet…, commissioned by The BENCH and directed by Charlotte Vincent, will be performed at Dance Base as part of Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2018. Emma has worked with directors such as Max Webster and Joe Douglas (The Royal Lyceum), collaborated with Ross Mackay (Scottish Youth Theatre’s National Ensemble) and was a PUSHPROJECT.EU artist. She has received a Jerwood Performing Arts Micro-Bursary (2018), the DanceXchange Choreographic Award (2017), the Marion North mentoring award (2015) and supported from Creative Scotland to tour her work annually since 2013. Her artistic research focuses on themes including identity, autobiography, authorship and re-authorship, rescaling performance, intersectionality, and cultural change.
