Giovana Elizabeth Jaspersen García 

Minister of Culture

Jaspersen García holds a Bachelor’s Degree in the Restoration of Movable Cultural Assets from the Western School of Conservation and Restoration (Escuela de Conservación y Restauración de Occidente) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Cultural Administration from the University of Guadalajara.  In addition to these qualifications, she studied at the Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage in Belgium.

Jaspersen García was the Director of the Palacio Cantón Regional Museum of Anthropology in Mérida, Yucatán, and was a regular contributor for the newspaper La Jornada Maya.

As Minister of Culture, she redesigned the cultural plan to implement public policies focused on developing a culture of peace, decentralising cultural services, and promoting inclusion and accessibility to culture for all.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, she has guided the Secretariat toward a reexamination of its role, adapting to the challenges faced by the arts and culture sector during the pandemic. She is leading a process of critical evaluation of the sector’s cultural policies, implementing methodologies of public access and innovation, with the participation of the British Council.
