James Hampson is the British Council’s Director UK and External Relations and a member of the organisation’s Global Leadership Team. He is responsible for the Council’s work with the Devolved Administrations of Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, and engagement with Whitehall and Westminster. Hampson has just returned from two years as Deputy Country Director, British Council Pakistan. Previously his postings for the Council included four years as Deputy Country Director, Egypt, and Country Director, Slovenia and Croatia. From 2007-2009 he was Private Secretary to the Chair of the British Council, Lord Kinnock, after which Hampson led the CEO and Chair’s Office until February 2010. He is the author of the British Council’s 2010 Comprehensive Spending Review submission.
