Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training, National History and Literary Heritage
Islamic Republic of Pakistan

Shafqat Mahmood was appointed Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training, National History and Literary Heritage in August 2018.

He has been a member of the National Assembly since June 2013 and was a member of the Senate of Pakistan from 1994 to 2000. He previously served as Federal Minister for Food, Agriculture and Livestock, Minister of Environment, Urban Affair Forestry and Wildlife, and Minister of Local Government and Rural Development. He served as Provincial Minister for Information of Punjab from 1999 to 2000.

He received Masters Degrees in Psychology and Public Administration from Harvard University in 1981. He obtained a Masters in Public Policy and Administration from the University of Southern California in 1987.

He was elected President of UNESCO’s Education Commission in 2019.
